$6 million federal grant will help early childhood education in Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State University has received a $6 million federal grant to help determine if professional development for preschool teachers in Ohio will translate into better-prepared kindergarten students.
The grant from the U.S Department of Education will allow researchers to study 900 early childhood teachers in the state who complete specially designed professional development courses developed by the Ohio Department of Education and the Early Childhood Quality Network (ecQ-net), located at Ohio State. The goal is to see if these courses can affect teachers’ knowledge, beliefs and practices. more...

“GoBuck$” a win win for education in Marion
Imagine getting your first college scholarship before you even learn to read. That is part of a new partnership between The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion City Schools.
The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion City Schools have teamed up in a pilot program beginning in the 2010-2011 academic school year and beyond that could mean increased attendance and academic performance in Marion City grades K-12, while providing up to $100,000 in scholarships annually to attend college. more...

Campus gallery highlights local talent
The Wayne & Geraldine Kuhn Fine Arts Gallery at Ohio State Marion will display the artwork of two uniquely talented central Ohio artists throughout the remainder of the summer, “Landscapes and More” by Jim Fought and “The Mandalas” by Barbara Stover.
“Landscapes and More” features a series of watercolor landscapes on canvas by Delaware, Ohio resident and artist Jim Fought. Fought’s work will be on display July 19 through August 6. more...

Kids’ College inspires imagination
Now in its twelfth season, The Ohio State University at Marion’s popular Kids’ College summer day camp program has partnered with Time Warner Cable to continue emphasizing the importance of keeping young minds active through hands on learning and exploration.
Kids’ College, sponsored by Time Warner Cable, will begin its first of three unique four-day summer learning sessions June 21-24, the second session will run June 28-July 1, and the third session July 12-15. Offerings for 2010 include: Science Rocks!!!, Alley-Oop, CSI Marion, Passport to Fishing, Hippie Art, Computer Camp, and two sessions of the ever popular Lego ® course Vehicle Engineering. more...

Re-evaluating a president’s legacy
A resurgence of interest in the often maligned presidency of Ohio’s native son, President Warren G. Harding, is being driven by revelations and a renewed outlook on the Harding administration, its accomplishments, and impact on American history.
Ohio’s flagship university is leading the drive for an annual public exchange of research and knowledge by authors, professors, and historians called, “The Warren G. Harding Symposium, The Man, the Myth, and the Legacy.” The symposium, in its inaugural year, will be held July 23rd & 24th in Harding’s hometown of Marion, Ohio. more...
