The Elgin FFA Environmental committee has teamed up with Marion County Litter and Recycling Prevention to adopt a portion of LaRue-Prospect Road that will be adjacent to the new Elgin K-12 building. The committee is headed by Isaac Van Gundy and Eian Miller. Committee members include Seaton Dyer, Layne McElroy, and Mason Clark.
Members of the Elgin FFA who are enrolled in the Plant and Horticultural Science class recently cleaned a portion of the road kicking off the Adopt a Highway program. Angela Carbetta, the Recyling and Litter Prevention Program Manager of Marion was on hand as the Elgin FFA began this new tradition. According to the ODOT website, the Texas Department of Transportation started the first Adopt-A-Highway program in 1985. Ohio then kicked off the program in 1989. This portion of roadway also runs over the Glade Run creek. Students will be making a positive impact of this waterway that also runs alongside the Sandusky Plains Environmental Education Center that is located at Elgin High School.
