Mayor Scott Schertzer has received notice that Fire Chief Allen Gruber has made the decision to retire from employment with the City of Marion effective February 20, 2010. Chief Gruber began his career with the City of Marion in September 1979 as a fireman. He was promoted to the rank of Fire Lieutenant in December 1988; Fire Captain in December 1989, Assistant Fire Chief in August 1991, and was then promoted to the position of Fire Chief in June 1994.

Mayor Schertzer states “Chief Gruber has had a long and successful career with the City of Marion. While serving as Fire Chief, one of his top priorities has always been making sure his department has the ability to respond to the needs of the Marion Community. I congratulate him on his retirement and would like to publicly express my thanks for his years of service to the City of Marion, as well as for the dedication he has given to fire service in the Marion community.”
