| Jeff LaBrozzi, Maintenance Manager at ConAgra Foods kisses a goat for United Way. |
ConAgra Foods, Smith Clinic and TRECA have stepped up to serve as Pacesetters for Marion County's 2009 United Way campaign. Pacesetters are businesses or organizations that begin their internal campaigns early, demonstrating strategies that can be used and the potential for success, thereby “setting the pace” for others.
All three organizations participated in the Stuff the Bus campaign during the month of June. The Stuff the Bus Campaign is just one strategy in United Way of Marion County’s education initiative. It provides school supplies to Marion County children who could otherwise not afford them. The supplies will be collected and distributed to the Marion County schools before the start of the new school year.
ConAgra Foods kicked off their workplace campaign in June with a “Kiss the Goat” fundraiser. Workplace associates were able to vote on management team members by ballot. The top five vote-getters were then placed in the running to kiss a goat owned by one of the employees. Votes were cast over the course of about four weeks by placing money in containers corresponding to each of the following managers: Bob Ferguson, Plant Manager; Ian Atkinson, Quality Manager; Tracy Lovelien, Operations Manager; Jeff LaBrozzi, Maintenance Manager; and Charles Lipscomb, Human Resources Manager. Those selected for the honor were Lipscomb, Lovelien, and LaBrozzi. ConAgra raised approximately $500 for United Way with the contest.
Through its consolidated annual campaign, planned and carried out primarily through volunteers, United Way of Marion County raises funds that are then invested back into the county through more than 35 area programs that focus on education, income and health. These are the building blocks for a good life – a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. The goal is to create long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place. We invite you to be a part of the change. Together, united, we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow. That’s what it means to Live United.
