Announcement
It's campaign season...
again. And we are out there asking for money...
again.
Same old, same old? Not quite. We've spent a lot of time and energy this past year researching issues, partnering on projects, convening experts, measuring impact and piloting programs. But maybe the most important thing we've been doing is communicating. You asked us to tell you how your money is being used and what the return is on your investment. In this issue of our e-newsletter, you'll read that your money was used to help working people continue working and caring for their families.
But there is one other thing I want to communicate to you. For the most part, we think of ourselves as separate individuals, each living our own life and making our own way in the world. We forget that we are part of something greater; we are part of a group of people known to the world as Marion County, Ohio. When one child fails to graduate here, and then another and another, it affects us all by contributing to an untrained workforce, unattractive to potential businesses. When one family here cannot afford medical care, and then another and another, it affects us all by increasing our insurance costs when they are finally forced to resort to an emergency room visit.
We do not exist in a vacuum. What happens to each of us affects those around us - for better or for worse- whether we like it or not. When you reach out a hand to one in either kindness or in malice, it affects us all. I'm asking you to remember this when someone asks you to support United Way this fall. Reach out your hand in kindness. Help us all.
Sincerely,
Pam Stone
