The Marion Police Canine Unit comprised of Ptl. Norm Ratterman and canine “Silver Bullet” and Ptl. Jamie Ralston and canine “Kody” participated in the United States Police Canine Association region 5 field trials in West Chester, Ohio June 11th through June 13th.
The U.S.P.C.A is a national organization that certifies Police Canines through use of regional and national trials held each year. The canines are judged on their abilities to perform various abilities that they would use in typical street work. There are 4 areas they are judged in, Obedience, agility, suspect search (comprised of article search and suspect box search), and criminal apprehension.
There were 48 canine teams from 4 different states that competed in this years regional trials.
Ptl. Ralston and canine Kody excelled in this years event. They brought home medals for finishing 4th overall in obedience, 4th in suspect search, 8th in criminal apprehension and brought home a trophy for finishing 6th overall in the trials.
Canine unit supervisor Lt. Matt Bayles stated “I am very proud of what Jamie and Kody were able to accomplish at the U.S.P.C.A trials this year.”
