Police Chief Tom Bell, Sheriff Tim Bailey, and Prosecuting Attorney Jim Slagle jointly released information regarding the use of the Crime Tip Line (375-TIPS) covering it first two months in operation.
Local law enforcement officials, with the support of Verizon, announced the establishment of the Crime Tip Line on March 31. Since that time, local law enforcement has received 72 calls on the TIP Line. 63 of the calls concerned illegal drug activity and the rest reported other types of criminal activity.
“Officers follow up on every call received,” Bell pointed out. “Three individuals have been arrested as a direct result of calls from the TIP line. Other calls have led to officers recovering drugs, drug paraphernalia, marijuana plants, and a marijuana grow system.”
“Callers may report information to the TIP Line, whether the crime occurred in the City or the County,” Sheriff Bailey pointed out. “Deputy Sheriffs are available to follow up on calls regarding criminal activity in the County.”
Slagle stated that callers have the option of remaining anonymous or providing their name and phone number. “It is particularly helpful when callers provide contact information, as this allows officers to follow up with the caller if additional information is needed,” Slagle stated.
Bell, Bailey and Slagle all expressed thanks for those who have called the Crime Tip Line (375-TIPS) and encourage members of the public to continue to call with information regarding criminal activity. “The public is our eyes and ears,” Bell stated.
Police and Sheriff’s cruisers all display bumper stickers with the tip line number.
