The Ohio State University at Marion
Louis Hominga, a staff member at The Ohio State University at Marion’s Delaware Center, received the university's highest honor for nonteaching employees on Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware Center. Hominga was presented The Ohio State University Distinguished Staff Award during a surprise visit from Columbus campus personnel and fellow Ohio State Marion staff, faculty, and students.
The Distinguished Staff Award recognizes 12 staff members annually, who have had five years of continuous service, for exceptional accomplishments, leadership, and service to the university community by significantly improving or enhancing the quality of work-life in ways that make a substantial difference for their colleagues; contributing to outstanding and sustained improvements in customer services; and developing creative solutions to problems that result in significantly more effective and efficient university operations.
Hominga, a resident of Delaware for the past nine years, has served in multiple roles, advising students in the areas of admissions, financial aid, and academics and working as a special staff assistant on multiple projects at the Ohio State classroom site located in Lewis Center, Ohio.
A native of Livonia, Michigan, and former employee of the University of Michigan, Hominga has spent the past 12 years of his career as a staff member with The Ohio State University. He attended Michigan State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations. He later completed his master’s degree at The Ohio State University.
According to Dean & Director Gregory S. Rose, Hominga was selected for his contributions to all the people he encounters at work, including university colleagues, students, and members of the community.
“He demonstrates a daily commitment to performing his job at the highest possible level,” said Rose.
According to Hominga, what makes the Delaware Center special is the opportunity to interact one on one with the students and the teamwork between faculty and staff that fosters success.
“I am honored and humbled at being selected,” said Hominga. “I read the letters of recommendation and I saw a number of things that I had even forgotten taking part in. It is nice to know people recognize your accomplishments.”
Hominga is the third Ohio State Marion staff member to win the award. Previous winners include assistant dean Leslie Beyer Hermsen and director of facilities and maintenance Ron Turner.
