The Marion Police Department is looking for people between the ages of 21 and 35 who want a career as a law enforcement officer. The Police Department is offering a civil service test in two phases, the first will be the physical agility test given on May 10th. Those who pass the physical agility test will be offered a written examination on May 17th. The civil service application is available at City Hall in the Human Resources Office or online at www.marionohio.us (click on the police tab and then on the employment opportunities link).
What does the Marion Police Department have to offer potential new hires? The Marion Police Department is an accredited law enforcement agency, achieving “Flagship Status” from CALEA in 2006, signifying that the Marion Police Department was in the top ten percent of all accredited law enforcement agencies.
The Marion Police Department currently has 64 sworn law officers and an authorized strength of 69 officers. The patrol officers work a ten hour a day schedule, four days a week, with permanent days off. Most officers’ work in uniform patrol, but the department offers specialty positions in Major Crime Investigations, the Marion Metro Drug Task Force, 2 School Resources Officers, a Special Response Team, a Dive Team, 2 K-9 Officers, Bicycle Patrol and others.
Officers in the Marion Police Department have an FOP contract, which stipulates officers get tuition reimbursement, paid vacation and holidays, sick leave, the ability to earn up to 480 hours of compensatory time and health and life insurance. Officers pay schedule is set by the contract and currently calls for non-probationary officers to earn a base salary of $39,728 per year, with the top patrol officer salary being $51,521 per year.
