Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that beginning April 1, 2008 curbside pick up will begin for all yard waste, as long as it is separated from the regular garbage and placed in trash cans, small boxes or clearly marked biodegradable paper bags. As observed over the past several years, the City will not pick up grass clippings at the curbside. Branches must be bundled and cut in lengths no longer than 5 feet. Curbside pick up for yard waste will be the day after your regular trash pick up. Example: Wednesday trash pick up – Thursday yard waste pick up.
Beginning Tuesday, April 1, city residents will also be able to drop off grass and yard waste materials free of charge to the City’s drop off site at 960 W. Center St. (City of Marion Streets Department on north side of Center St.). Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Requirements for depositing grass and yard waste are:
1. Proof of City residency (Photo identification with address).
2. Residents using plastic bags will need to deposit loose grass in dumpsters and discard or retain the empty bags. Paper biodegradable bags are available at some local retail stores.
The Mayor cautions residents that the primary purpose of this site is for grass clippings. However, other yard waste such as leaves, twigs, flowers, branches and brush will be accepted. Large amounts of brush must be taken to Park Enterprise Construction Co., Inc. located at 650 Herr Road (west on ST. RT. 309, before Big Island). For additional information on Park Enterprise Construction Co., Inc. hours of operation and acceptance program, please call 223-7275.
