“GoBuck$” a win win for education in Marion
Imagine getting your first college scholarship before you even learn to read. That is part of a new partnership between The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion City Schools.
The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion City Schools have teamed up in a pilot program beginning in the 2010-2011 academic school year and beyond that could mean increased attendance and academic performance in Marion City grades K-12, while providing up to $100,000 in scholarships annually to attend college. more...

Heart of Ohio Mentoring, Marion Rec Center, NAACP, and United Way Collect and Distribute “Stuff the Bus” School Supplies
As a strategy in their Education initiative, the United Way of Marion County and its partner agency Heart of Ohio Mentoring recently collected more than 2,000 back-to-school supplies through its second annual “Stuff the Bus” community campaign. The supplies were passed on to the NAACP and Marion Rec Center for distribution to more than 150 local children.
The event was designed to provide families, who may not otherwise have the means, to access supplies needed for their children to be successful in school. more...

Moonlight Serenade at Otterbein College
Local musician Johnny Steiner has been performing throughout central Ohio for well over ten years. He is a singer, actor, pianist, conductor, voice teacher,and choir director – sometimes all of these in one day!
He originally hails from Green Camp. A graduate of Elgin High School, Johnny holds a degree in music from Otterbein College.
Johnny has quite a following here in the Buckeye State. He recently starred as ʻSky Mastersonʼ in the Marion Palace Theatre production of Guys and Dolls.
On August 29th, he will once again hit the stage at his college alma mater for a concert at 2pm. Entitled Moonlight Serenade, the concert continues in Johnnyʼs tradition of singing the great American songbook. With the dreamy songs of nighttime as his theme, Johnnyʼs matinee performance will feature such tunes as Swinging on a Star, Strangers in the Night, Dream a Little Dream, Night and Day, Mister Sandman, and many many more! more...
