Marion County Farm Bureau is ready to serve their annual Farmer’s Share Breakfast - pancakes, sausage, eggs, milk, orange juice and coffee. The public is invited to attend Saturday, March 20th from 7 – 11 a.m. at Tri-Rivers. Breakfast cost 50-cents or a donation of a non-perishable food item. The 50-cents represent’s what the farmer would receive for producing the food. Come celebrate the first day of spring and National Ag Day. American Agriculture: Abundant. Affordable. AMAZING.

Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society
bluefusion entertainment center has partnered with Relay for Life & Jazzercise to host a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The event is called Laugh for Life. Laugh for Life will take place in Poppy’s Sports Pub & Grille, located in bluefusion on March 20th at 7 pm.
Laugh for Life will feature Comedian Jeff Robinson. Jeff is the creator of “Comics for a Cure”, an annual benefit show held in Delaware, Ohio, which also raises money for the American Cancer Society. Robinson has been the feature act and headliner all over the state of Ohio including The Funny Bone, The Improv and The Blue Cat. He is also a winner of the QFM96 Wags and Elliot Comedy competition.    more...

United Way of Marion County to hold Annual Meeting
United Way of Marion County, Ohio Inc., will hold an annual meeting of its membership, Wednesday, February 24th, 2010, starting at noon in the Memorial Room of TRECA, 100 Executive Drive, Marion. The agenda will include election of officers for 2010, as well as recognition of outstanding volunteers and contributors. The event will be preceded by a $13.00 per plate buffet lunch, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required for the meal. Call United Way at 740.383.3108 for details.

The Ohio State University at Marion invites the community to the Infinity Restaurant in the historic Harding Hotel, 267 West Center Street, downtown Marion, Tuesday, January 5, 7 p.m., for a free monthly community dialogue on science entitled, Science Café.

January’s Science Café welcomes Marion County Health Commissioner, Dr. Kathy Dixon, who will present a timely discussion entitled, H1N1: The Swine Flu Pandemic.

Pandemic, seasonal flu, H1N1—what do they all mean? This edition of Science Café will attempt to shed light on the definition and process of declaring a disease a pandemic. Dixon will also delve into the difference between seasonal influenza and H1N1 influenza, provide an update on the numbers of suspected cases currently, and discuss where we are locally with the H1N1 vaccine and the Marion County response to H1N1.    more...

Holiday Schedule for City Offices
Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing the following closings and adjusted hours for City Offices during the upcoming Holiday week:

• City Hall
In observance of the Christmas holiday, City Hall offices will be closing at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday December 24th and will remain closed until Monday, December 28th. For the New Year’s holiday, City Hall offices will be closing at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31st and will remain closed until Monday, January 4th.

• Sanitation Sanitation crews will not collect refuse on Friday, December 25th or Friday, January 1st. Residents with Friday sanitation service are asked to have collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28th and Monday, January 4th. Crews will collect both Friday and Monday’s refuse on each Monday (If weather does not permit collection of both days refuse, collection could extend into Tuesday.). Sanitation crews will also begin collecting live Christmas trees on December 28th. Live Christmas trees should be placed at curbside on the resident’s garbage day. Residents are asked to NOT wrap trees in plastic, as City crews will chip the trees at curbside for two weeks following Christmas.   more...
