City of Marion’s Observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday

City Hall will be closed on Monday, January 15, 2018 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. However, some City departments will operate on a regular or modified schedule for the day. The following departments will operate as listed below:

Marion Community Foundation’s 2018 Scholarship Program

MARION, OH –  Marion Community Foundation’s 2018 Scholarship Program is now underway for area high school seniors and graduates.  The Foundation’s scholarship program, which has grown exponentially since its first award in 2000, now includes 116 funds.

Last year, the Foundation’s scholarship funds generated 193 awards – totaling just over $291,000 – for 140 Marion area high school seniors and graduates.

City of Marion Closure Hours for Observance of Veteran’s Day

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that due to Veteran’s Day falling on a Saturday this year, the federally observed day for the holiday will be Friday, November 10, 2017. Therefore, offices in City Hall will be closed on Friday, November 10 in observance of Veteran’s Day. As a result of City Hall being closed on Friday, offices will be observing weekly early closure hours on Thursday, November 9.

Leaf Collection for City of Marion Residents

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that leaf collection for city residents will begin Monday, October 16 and continue through Friday, December 8, 2017. The three options for disposal of leaves by city residents are:
1. Place leaves in the tree lawn area to be vacuumed.
A vacuum-type collector will collect leaves raked to the tree lawn area, with each street having leaves collected during the leaf pick-up season.
As a note, it is requested that residents NOT rake leaves into the streets so water can drain properly into the city’s storm sewer system and therefore, not cause blockage for catch basins and drains.… Read More


Street Closures for Popcorn Festival

The City of Marion is announcing that detours in the downtown Marion area will begin being posted at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 5 to accommodate activities for the upcoming Marion Popcorn Festival, being held September 7-9. Downtown streets will remain closed until the festival’s conclusion at midnight on Saturday and may remain closed into the early hours of Sunday morning for festival clean-up. Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing the following closures for the City of Marion on Monday, September 4, 2017 in observance of the Labor Day holiday:
• All offices in City Hall will be closed.
• Sanitation crews will not work on Monday, September 4. Residents that normally have Monday sanitation service are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5. Sanitation crews will collect both Monday and Tuesday’s refuse on Tuesday, with the possibility that some of Tuesday’s collection could extend into Wednesday.… Read More
