Philanthropy in the next generation is alive and well in Marion, according to Dean Jacob, president and CEO of Marion Community Foundation. MCF’s youth council, Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP), is seeking charitable projects in need of their support and they want to be hands-on said chairperson Kim Cannane.

MARION, OH – Julie Prettyman has been selected to fill the new position of Program Manager at Marion Community Foundation, announced Susie Brown, Chair of the Board of Trustees chairperson.

“We are pleased to welcome Julie,” said President/CEO Dean L. Jacob. “She has extensive experience in project management in both for-profit and non-profit organizations, as well as previous foundation experience.”

United Federal Credit Union Presents Check To United Way

United Federal Credit Union Presents CheckMARION, OHIO – United Federal Credit Union’s local staff showed their
generosity last Friday when they presented a check for United Federal
Credit Union’s corporate gift of $2,388 to the United Way of Marion

 The money is a dollar-for-dollar match to the employee’s personal
pledges to the community campaign that benefits 18 local agencies that
operate 33 different programs.

Robin Schelb, Regional Manager for UFCU say it’s important for the
staff to see themselves as part of a larger purpose, “I tell the
members that it’s not just about working inside a building, but also
it’s about working for our community and that’s a key factor here.”

The money will help support United Way’s efforts to ensure children and
youth reach their potential, promote financial stability and

The December, 2013 unemployment figures have been released. The Marion County unemployment rate for December,
2013 decreased to 7.1% from 7.6% in November. For Ohio, the unemployment rate in November was 7.2%, seasonally
adjusted. And the unemployment rate for Marion County in December of 2012 was 7.2%. This is positive news for
Marion and a significant decrease of one half of one percent from November, 2013 to December, 2013. I remain
