Mayor’s appointment of a Director of Public Service

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing his appointment of Randy Caryer to the position of Director of Public Service for the City of Marion. Mr. Caryer assumed his new duties on April 6, 2016.

In his position as Service Director, Mr. Caryer will oversee the operation of the City’s Airport, Maintenance, Information Technology, Parks, Senior Center, Transit, and Utility Billing Departments. Mayor Schertzer states, “I believe the relationships that Randy had previously established within local government, as well as his institutional knowledge of municipal administration and problem solving skills as a former internal affairs officer will be a great help not only to my administration but to our departments as well.… Read More


Marion Community Foundation’s 2016 Scholarship Program Open

Marion Community Foundation’s 2016 Scholarship Program is now underway for area high school seniors and graduates. The Foundation’s scholarship program, which has grown exponentially since its first award in 2000, now includes more than 75 funds.

In 2015, scholarship funds generated 185 awards to 134 Marion area students – exceeding $339,000. “In just the last 5 years, the number of scholarship funds has nearly doubled – from 40 to 75 – and the amount of awards quadrupled,” said Marion Community Foundation President and CEO Dean Jacob.… Read More


City of Marion Holiday Sale for Memberships to the Lincoln Park Aquatics Center

The City of Marion will hold a Holiday Sale for Family Memberships to the Lincoln Park Aquatics Center. This sale will be held from Monday, November 30 through Thursday, December 3, 2015. During this Holiday Sale, the cost of the Family Membership will be $199, and may include up to 8 people on the membership. The discounted memberships may be purchased at the Safety Directors office on the 3rd floor of City Hall from 7:30 am – 5:00 pm or at the Marion Municipal Airport (1530 Pole Lane Rd.) from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.… Read More


City of Marion’s observance of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that all City departments will be closed on Thursday, November 26, 2015 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Offices in City Hall will also be closed on Friday, November 27, 2015.

PLEASE NOTE: As a result of offices in City Hall being closed on Thursday and Friday, the weekly early closure day for the City Hall building will be observed on Wednesday, November 25. Therefore, most offices in City Hall will be observing their Friday business hours on Wednesday, November 25, with notable early closures being the Municipal Court and Utility Billing offices closing at 2:00 p.m.… Read More
