Local EFSP Board Taking Applications for Federal Funds

MARION – United Way of Marion County, the local administrative agent for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), announced today that Marion County will receive $23,215 in federal funding this year to supplement emergency food and shelter programs.

Local agencies that provide such services wishing to apply for funding from Marion County’s EFSP Board will need to submit an application on or before Monday, July 14, 2014. To be eligible, an agency must: 1) be a private voluntary non-profit or a unit of government, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice non-discrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 5) if a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.… Read More


City of Marion Yard Waste Pick-up

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that weekly collection of yard waste at curbside is returning as a service of the Sanitation and Streets Department and will begin on Monday, May 5, 2014. Curbside pick up for yard waste generally occurs on the day following each resident’s regular trash collection day (example: Friday trash pick-up-Monday yard waste pick up). With limited personnel, this schedule may vary. Community Clean-Up Day

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that the City of Marion will sponsor a Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 10, 2014.

Any City of Marion resident, currently on City Sanitation Service, wishing to dispose of unwanted items may do so by taking those items directly to the Marion County Solid Waste Transfer Station located at 1564 Victory Road,(directly east of the Marion Correctional Institute). City of Marion Yard Waste Collection Information

For the month of April 2014, the City of Marion will be collecting yard waste at curbside from Monday, April 7 through Friday, April 11. Curbside pick up for yard waste generally occurs on the day following each resident’s regular trash collection day (example: Friday trash pick-up – Monday yard waste pick up). With limited personnel, this schedule can vary.

In a specific change to the yard waste program for 2014, there will be a limit of 3 bags and/or 3 bundles of limbs/branches collected from each residence per month during the 2014 yard waste season.… Read More
