Construction Permits/Licenses

Certain commercial and private activities in the City of Marion are governed by the issuance of permits and licenses.  Following are key persons or departments and the licenses or permits they issue most frequently.  Contact them for details and fee information.

 

City Engineer - (740) 387-2240

The following permits are required for all improvements within the street right-of-way:  Sewer (sewer permits are needed on both private and public property), Water Lines, Driveways, Power Poles, Gas Lines, Sidewalks, Curbs & Gutters, Phone Lines

 

Health Department - (740) 387-3604

The Following may be obtained through the Marion City Health Department:  Birth Certificates, Death Certificates, Food Service Licenses, Food Establishment Permits, Vending Machine Operation Licenses

 

Plumbing Inspection - (740) 387-6520

Plumbing inspections are a service provided, on a fee basis, for new installation or remodeling.  The County plumbing inspector can be reached at the Marion County Health Department.  Plans for new plumbing in a home or public building must be submitted and approved before a permit can be issued. 

 

Safety/Service - (740) 387-5865

The following may be obtained through the Safety/Service Department:  Cab (Chauffeur's) Licenses, Parade Permits, Banner Permits, Towing/Business Licenses, Block Party Permits, Boxing and Wrestling Licenses, Fortuneteller's Permits, Going Out of Business Permits, Moving Building Permits, Peddler's and Solicitor's Permits, Bicycle Licenses (issued by Police Department Records Bureau)

Tax Incentives

 

Marion City and County offer expanding companies generous incentives including real and personal property tax abatement through the enterprise zone and community reinvestment area programs  In addition, the Ohio Department of Development offers many forms of financial assistance, such as tax incentive programs, as well as loans, grants and bonds.  Financial assistance programs include the Ohio Job Creation Tax Credit, Export Tax Credit,  Research and Development Sales Tax Incentive, Ohio Enterprise Zone Program, Community Reinvestment Areas, Tax Increment Financing,  and Ohio Export Tax Credit.  For more detailed information and contacts, go to the Economic Development Division of the Ohio Department of Development.
