City Hours for Memorial Day Observance
City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 28th in observance of Memorial Day.
Sanitation crews will not collect sanitation and recycling on Monday, May 28th. Residents who normally have sanitation services on Monday are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29th. Sanitation crews will collect both Monday and Tuesday’s refuse on Tuesday, with the possibility that some of Tuesday’s collection could extend into Wednesday. more...

2012 Scholarship Program awards
Marion Community Foundation is proud to announce its 2012 Scholarship Program awards -- $100,000, in 85 scholarships -- to be given to local high school graduates and college students. An additional $20,000 will be awarded to the Wopat Scholars.
The biggest addition to MCF’s Scholarship Program is the launch of the Wopat Scholars. According to MCF president Brad Bebout, “The Scholarship Committee has identified five finalists for the Wopat Scholars, which will be a 4-year scholarship of $10,000 per year. Interviews will be conducted on May 14 and recipients announced soon thereafter.” Two Wopat Scholars will be named.
Made possible by the substantial gift of the late Robert and Dorothy Wopat, the scholarship fund they created will award two 4-year scholarships. more...

Elgin students win Gold at Ohio SkillsUSA Robotics Competition
MARION — TRCC/MTC/Elgin students won the Ohio State SkillsUSA Mobile Robotics contest on April 27-28 in Columbus.
Seniors Dustin Foster, Nick Dunn and Eric Napper beat the 2011 defending state champs and national participant, The Technology Center of Fremont, 105 to 50 over three matches.
The contest was a two-minute contest in programming and robot construction skills. The Elgin team was the strongest team at the event in programming, averaging more points in the programming Robot C language (25 points) mode than the other teams averaged in their total score. Foster, Dunn, and Napper designed, built, and drew their robot for the event. The judges graded them on professionalism, presentation skills, interviewing ability, and their engineering notebooks — and awarded them the gold. more...

Community Clean-Up Day
Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that the City of Marion will sponsor a Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 19, 2012.
Any City of Marion resident, currently on City Sanitation Service, wishing to dispose of unwanted items may do so by taking those items directly to the Marion County Solid Waste Transfer Station located at 1564 Victory Road, (directly east of the Marion Correctional Institute).
